Top 20 Songs - 1982

It's on now. After two easy years, 1982 proved to be quite difficult. This does not have me looking forward to the coming years, as there are bound to be some tough decisions.

HONORABLE MENTION: Edge Of Seventeen: Stevie Nicks, Caught Up In You: .38 Special, I Ran: A Flock Of Seagulls, Africa: Toto, Who Can It Be Now?: Men At Work, Eye In The Sky: Alan Parsons Project, Steppin' Out: Joe Jackson, Mickey: Toni Basil, Maneater: Hall & Oates, 1999: Prince, Goody Two Shoes: Adam Ant, Do You Really Want To Hurt Me: Culture Club

Heartlight, Neil Diamond

'Cause everyone needs a place
And home's the most excellent place of all
And I'll be right here if you should call me"

Down Under, Men At Work
"Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language"
He just smiled and gave me a Vegimate sandwich
And he said"

Shock The Monkey, Peter Gabriel
"Darling, don't you monkey with the monkey
Monkey, monkey, monkey
Don't you know you're going to shock the monkey"

Somebody's Baby, Jackson Browne
"Well, just - a look at that girl with the lights comin' up in her eyes.
She's got to be somebody's baby.
She must be somebody's baby."

Words, Missing Persons
"What are words for
When no one listens anymore
What are words for
When no one listens what are words for
When no one listens
There's no use talking at all."

Hungry Like The Wolf, Duran Duran
"Darken the city, night is a wire
Steam in the subway, earth is a afire
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
Woman, you want me, give me a sign
And catch my breathing even closer behind
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo"

You Dropped A Bomb On Me, The Gap Band

You dropped a bomb on me
You turn me out, you turn me on
You turned me loose, then you turned me wrong"

Twilight Zone, Golden Earring
"Help, I'm steppin' into the Twilight Zone
Place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon has moved
Under moon and star
Where am I to go now that I've gone too far (ooooo)"

Gloria, Laura Branigan
"A-ha-ha, a-ha-ha, Gloria, how's it gonna go down?
Will you meet him on the main line, or will you catch him on the rebound?
Will you marry for the money, take a lover in the afternoon?
Feel your innocence slipping away, don't believe it's comin' back soon"

Only Time Will Tell, Asia
"You're leaving now
It's in your eyes
There's no disguising it
It really comes as no surprise
To find that you planned it all along"

"I can see your face still shining through the window on the other side
Rosanna, Rosanna
I didn't know that a girl like you could make me feel so sad, Rosanna"

Don't You Want Me, Human League
"I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
That much is true
But even then I knew I'd find a much better place
Either with or without you
The five years we have had have been such good times
I still love you
But now I think it's time I live my life on my own
I guess it's just what I must do"

Tainted Love, Soft Cell
"Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Oh...tainted love
Tainted love"

'65 Love Affair, Paul Davis

And incidents arose from circumstance
One thing led to another, we were young
And we would scream together songs unsung"

Freeze-Frame, J. Geils Band

Her face still focused in my mind
Test-strip proof-sheet love is hard to find
Friday night we'll dance the spotlight grind
Stop-time heart for me if she's not mine"

Eye Of The Tiger, Survivor
"It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all
With the eye- of the tiger"

Up until a few years ago, my high school alma mater came out to Eye of the Tiger. Every home game. It was pretty cool and you knew when you came to town, that's what it was.

Alas, the new generation of twerps just don't understand tradition and they'd rather come out to crap you can't understand.
